DIVES
The sea surrounding the island hides a wonderful world submerged, with flora and fauna rich. Its depths are a riot of shapes and colours, thanks to the beautiful "flower" of madrepore, orange and colourful sponges that are located along the cliffs. In addition, various forms plants and animals live in these waters. The types of fish can be seen swimming in the sea are the most various. In the caves, in fact, you may encounter greater fish; more depth, however, the landscape is enriched by moray eels, lobsters, cicadas sea, shrimp. The flora is very rich in life forms, such as oceanic poseidonia or splendid red sea fans among which sometimes makes the head black coral. It is thanks to all these wonderful natural that Ustica in l986 has become one of the most beautiful and important marine reserves of Italy.
Rock of the lion
At a depth ranging from 10 to 24 meters you can see a series of rocks on the sandy bottom forming a path marked by canyons and small caves. Among these wonders marine, underwater photography enthusiasts can enjoy themselves both games of light for the colours of the walls given from the benthos.
Punta Falconiera
(Depth from -24 to -35 m)
Along a colourful wall, where it is easy to meet octopus and small fish, we arrive at the entrance of a cave, which resembles a very large cavern, standing on opening a sandy seabed. Inside there are a lot of calcareous sponges and it is populated by Plesionika Narval, the famous shrimp of Ustica.
Cala Santa Maria
(Depth from -18 to -40 m).
The dive is characterized by a sandy slope on which are located several pieces of amphora.
These witnessed frequent shipwrecks that, in ancient times, often accompanied Roman ships trying to land on the island.
Following the slope can be seen the profile of a big rock where you can still see a big meet contemporary and moray eels, lobsters and crabs.
On a sandy bottom at about - 40 meters there is still a strain of the Roman Empire.
Cave Totò
(Depth from 0 to -16 m)
Discovered four years ago, this immersion is particularly striking.
The entrance, close enough, is at about -10 meters and leads in a large room whose bottom and covered with a fine sand.
Access, recommended for experienced divers, is limited to a maximum of three divers accompanied by a guide. On the right the lava forms a sort of huge stalagmite. On the vault many stalactites. A top leadership leads to a bubble: once on the surface the show literary takes the breath away. Inside you can see some calcareous sponges and Plesionika Narval, the famous shrimp of Ustica.
Cave of Pastizza
(Depth from -7 to -18 meters).
It is really a system of caves communicating.
In the first part we meet two inner tubes above the sea level.
In the first you can see the statue of St. Bartolo, protector of the island.
The sandy bottom sometimes, the lack of light, and the narrow passages make it advisable to true lovers of caves.
Outside the cave diving continues with the wall where it is easy to meet octopus and fish.
Cala Galera
(Depth - 18 - 45 meters)
It is possible to make two dives at different depths and also to see a lot of fish.
Cernie, saraghi, salpe, looks accompany the underwater along a route that follows many boulders.
For those who want to continue the dive off the coast going to the big rocks, coloured by numerous red gorgonians, places a bathymetry of about -43 metres. The Supreme you can meet big greater amberjack.
Cave of shrimp
(Immersion challenging).
For lovers of caves this is certainly one of the most famous dives, a unique experience. The large entrance leads to a large room by the sandy bottom that creates a play of light really breathtaking. Along the left wall you can meet some very thick swarms of plesionika narval (shrimps of Ustica), and some musdele, a big gronco who lives between these inlets and sometimes divers can stay near it. The exit, located at a depth of - 28 metres leads to a fall of boulders where usually meet groupers, and salpe and big saraghi.
Cape of the Harp
Depth 7-40 metres)
From 7 to 15 metres immersion is ideal for underwater photography lovers with dozens of ravines colonized by coral and false madrepore of various kinds. From 20 meters on a prairie of Poseidonia accompanies the descent of the divers up to two isolated reefs (40 meters deep) rich paramuccie, sea roses, yellow sea fans, astroides, sponges and algae limestone. And it is precisely in these depths you can see the most beautiful of the red sea fans. You can also meet sedentary banks of salpe, looks and saraghi and alone barracuda in hunting.
The secchitello
(Challenging dive)
Depth from -24 to -50 m --
The dry consists of a series of large boulders from a sandy seabed around -60 metres rise to a bathymetry of -24 meters. Here you can observe paramuccie and robust branches of coral, while on the dry hat is easy to meet banks and huge barracuda and big amberjack in hunting. Also visible are the remains of an Italian fighter precipitated during the Second World War.
Sutta a za 'Lisa
(Depth from -5 to -20 m)
Under one of the most beautiful bays on the island, about 20 metres deep, is the very own archaeological “museum” submerged. A small canyon leads to some gorges created by the collapse of part of the rock above, fallen on a Roman wreck, and it is among these cavities that can be observed numerous pieces of amphora, sometimes in the same stratified rock. Leaving the canyon on the right, around a bathymetry of 12 metres we reach a wall extraordinarily rich in strange sponges and colonies of Parazohantus
Grotto of Cipree
(Depth from -10 to -24 m)
The itinerary underwater archaeological Punta Gavazzi is the first significant worldwide experiment about conservation and visit to archaeological discovery of the seabed. It is located in the south - west area of the island Spalmatore and consists of the testimony (mainly anchors) of the passage of ships in Ustica while they was crossing the Mediterranean.

On the bottom, there are three lines of visit connected to one another, reported by surface buoy of different colour.
Pyramids
(Depth from -14 to -50 m)
A striking canyon leads quickly to a narrow entrance, apparently unable to go because of an earlier landslide of large boulders, which actually hides the entry of two caves. One is located at a depth of about 26 metres, while the second is approximately 50 metres characterized by a sandy seabed. The incredible clarity of water enhances the beautiful light, visible throughout the entire route.
Reef of Doctor
Reef surfacing in a few tens of meters from the area of the reserve full, where you can make at least four different dives, all characterized by crystal water and quantity of fish.
Dry the Colombara
With a maximum depth of about 45 metres, this is certainly one of the most beautiful diving on the island. The wall facing to the north-west, made up of basalt columns leads to a plateau of large boulders rich in coral-reefs, where you can meet the big fish as brown and golden groupers. On the left you can see a beautiful wall that drops from 30 metres up to 45. There is possible to meet various types of fish such as barracuda, greater amberjack and sometimes even large tuna, while the bottom is rich in pink sponges (unusual meeting in the Mediterranean); also it is possible to see paramuricee, calcareous algae, astroides and colonies of ascidie.
